The Tale of Couillon

I was beyond thrilled to attend the opening of Mythologies Louisianaises at the Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge. To see my work, The Tale of Couillon, represented in Kouri-Vini, International Louisiana French, and English reconnected me to my roots and brought back incredible memories of my grandparents. Michael Williams’s accompanying sculpture is so profound in its perfect physical representation of Couillon’s plight that I cried. Jonathan Mayers, the curator, did an incredible job of connecting peoples. His partial statement, “The opportunity to (re)engage in our vibrant storytelling traditions that stem from Indigenous America, Africa, and Europe culminates in this homage to language, identity, and inclusivity in such a way that all collaborators of this exhibition reclaim the ways in which identity binds them.”

What an incredible opportunity to engage in the greater creative community and share my work — I’m so grateful. The exhibition is up for a year, so if you are in the Baton Rouge area, go see it!
